Sports are all about epic rivalries, and in the world of cricket there are several such rivalries. However, one of the oldest and the most iconic rivalries has been that between India and Pakistan.
In the cricketing field, no two nations probably play with such an emotion as these two teams do against each other. Separated by borders but united by their love for the game, India and Pakistan are each others toughest competitors.
Following are the five players to watch out for, as the titans clash tomorrow night at the historic Eden Gardens –
- Shikhar Dhawan
A rocketship on his way to Mars, Shikhar Dhawan has been an outstanding performer in most of the games that he has played in recent times. However, one poor performance will not affect his game, and Dhawan is expected to slam Pakistan’s bowling attack out of the ground this time, compensating for his failure in the last match.
- R Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin has been red-hot in recent times and is in the form of his life. He is expected to be a key spinner who can make a difference in an otherwise pace-friendly Eden Gardens. Ashwin is expected to be India’s leading bowler in the match alongside Nehra.
- Shahid Afridi
The captain of the Pakistan side, Shahid Afridi has been a troubled match. In what is most likely to be his final series, Afridi is expected to bow out of international cricket after this tournament. Afridi has recently returned to form in the match against Bangladesh, and it is expected that he will carry his form as he ‘boom-booms’ through the Indian bowlers.
- MS Dhoni
Another captain at the end of his T20 career, MSD is probably in his final world cup tournament as a captain. Dhoni has often been questioned by many over accountability for losses, but has come out stronger every time. The previous loss has hurt the team’s standing as well as the morale, and India is now desperate for a win. Captain cool is expected to lead from the front.
- Mohammad Hafeez
Another player likely to be in his final world cup tournament, Hafeez has been the mainstay of Pakistan batting since a very long time, and if the previous knock was and indicator of things to come, India should be very, very cautious against this man.
