He has made movies such as Fashion, Heroine, and Page 3 – showing the dark side of superstardom.

The man has explored topics which no other director has dared to venture towards, and has been a master innovator in his work.

He has won many national awards over his work, and now he is all set to be awarded with something for the first time! Madhur Bhandarkar has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree from Rai University in Ahmedabad.

The degree is being awarded to him to appreciate his work in Indian cinema and for his women-centric movies which have been major successes.

According to an official statement from Rai University, Madhur Bhandarkar will be receiving this doctorate degree during the annual convocation ceremony of the institute which will be held on Saturday.

Bhandarkar has commented saying “I owe my success and recognition to the movies I have made and the whole team behind it. These recognitions are also a responsibility that push you to do better.”

Madhur Bhandarkar has been having quite a year, as earlier this year he was also nominated for the Padma Shree award, one of the highest honors for a resident of the nation.

The latest Madhur Bhandarkar movie went quite unnoticed in the B-town, as the movie ‘calendar girls’ failed to draw audiences into the theaters and was hailed a commercial and critical success, however we’re sure Bhandarkar would bounce back with better and bigger releases in the near future as he has been one rock-solid performer!

The official statement from Rai University reads – “We want to honour the hard work and commitment of the director who hails from a middle class, non-filmy background and has carved a unique space for his genre of cinema through his sheer perseverance and focus.”

About time we prepare ourselves for Dr. Madhur Bhandarkar now! We congratulate him on this award.
