Rahul Gandhi has been among the news almost every day. The man has been coming out with several new ways to tackle the BJP and has been trying hard to promote the Congress party, trying hard to win back the confidence the public once had in the grand old party for over sixty years.
Rahul Gandhi has now met Kanhaiyya Kumar, the JNUSU student leader who had been arrested by the Delhi Police recently over the JNU row.
The Congress VP had earlier visited JNU, and now invited Kanhaiyya to his home, along with a JNUSU delegation, consisting of members from All India Student’s Federation (AISF).
The meeting lasted for one hour, and while Kanhaiyya and his associates denied commenting on what happened in the meeting to the media, NSUI Chief, Roji M John said, “A JNU delegation headed by Kanhaiya met Rahul Gandhi. It was a courtesy call. They thanked him for his continuous support ever since the issue started.”
“Gandhi not only supported the students at JNU but also FTII and IIT Madras where students have been protesting against the way the government is attacking institutions. We will continue this fight to protect autonomy of institutions,” continued Roji M John.
Kanhaiyya is supposed to visit the Hyderabad Central University on Wednesday, and it is expected that he will be joining the protests against Vice Chancellor AppaRaoPodile’s return to office after the RohitVemula controversy. Kanhaiyya would also be meeting Rohit’s mother there. It has also been claimed that Kanhaiyya would be campaigning for the Left during the Bengal elections.
However controversy was then created in the Uttarakhand Congress camps as the leaders were angered by this meeting saying, to “meet JNU students’ union president Kanhaiyya Kumar but not his own party MLAs who have repeatedly complained against (Chief Minister) Harish Rawat’s style of functioning”. The congress Rebels are in Delhi these days, and are looking forward to meet Rahul Gandhi. An implosion might be on its way as Uttarakhand Congress falls apart.
“This is entirely the weakness of the central leadership. When Rahul Gandhiji walked up to Kedarnath, I walked with him. I requested a meeting many times to apprise him of the situation in Uttarakhand but where does he have the time to meet us. Sonia Gandhiji meets everybody, but there is never any solution from her. We have told (AICC general secretary in-charge) AmbikaSoni many times but she always says there is nothing in her hands.” said Harak Singh Rawat, one of the nine Congress rebels.
