Rahul Gandhi, of late, has been one of the biggest names in the Indian parliament when it comes to taking up the causes of the farmers.
It is not like RaGa is taking up a ‘trend’ as he has been advocating for many farmer causes even when the UPA government was in power.
As soon as the session began on Monday morning, Rahul Gandhi asked the ruling party to immediately look into the cause of the rain-hit farmers who have been affected by off-season rainfall and hailstorm.
Gandhi commented on the matter stating, “Farmers are in distress following the recent hailstorm and heavy rains. Their crops have been damaged. The government should take immediate action to help them.”
Parliamentry affairs minister M Venkaiah Naidu was among the first name to respond to Mr. Gandhi later in the day, stating that he has spoken with the Agriculture Minister and has termed the issue as “serious”.The agricultural minister is in touch with state governments.
Rahul Gandhi took up this cause first thing in the morning. The government has now assured that they will look into the matter and has promised help.
Agricultural Minister, Radha Mohan Singh has now said that the reports from the affected states are expected in the next 3 to 4 days and they will begin working on it as soon as they get them.
According to the data that Mr. Singh already has, over 264 villages have been affected by rain as well as hailstorm in the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Several other states have also received a similar weather, and the sudden change has damaged the crops. Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana are the key states which have been affected by the off-season rain and hailstorms.
The Congress VP himself has been under a lot of controversy off late, be it his claims that the government rolled back the EPF scheme because of his attack, or that his citizenship has itself come under the radar.
There have been allegations that Rahul Gandhi has been making deals under a British citizenship, and the party has now been asked to submit a proof regarding the same matter.
Rahul Gandhi has now been working in close terms with Prashant Kishor for the UP and Punjab Elections.
